Join us

"Joining Exmoor Singers has been an extremely positive experience for me. I had only recently moved to London and I decided that this was exactly the kind of choir I was looking for. Having contacted the choir through this 'join us' page, I was invited to attend their wonderful Christmas concert, followed by a trial rehearsal in the New Year. The trial rehearsal is a great idea as it gives singers the opportunity to decide whether the way that the choir works appeals to them and allows them to experience a normal rehearsal without the pressure of having to audition first.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the trial rehearsal and been further impressed by the high standards of the choir I then returned the following week for an audition.

Since joining, I have found Exmoor Singers to be extremely welcoming and friendly. Everyone works hard and keeping the musical standards high demands commitment but there is also time to relax and socialise after rehearsals, over our weekend recording sessions and festivals and, most notably, during the choir's annual trip to Orford Ness!

If you are a keen singer looking for a choir which performs a wide variety of choral music to the highest standards and are prepared to be committed and enthusiastic then Exmoor Singers of London is the choir for you!

So contact me by completing the joining enquiry form at the bottom of this page and I will get back to you as soon as possible.”

Exmoor Singers is always interested in hearing from experienced choral singers with good sight reading ability.
Entry is by audition.

What does the audition involve?
Before auditioning, we encourage people to attend a trial rehearsal. Then, should you wish to audition, we would ask that you come back the following week. The audition itself is quite straightforward and consists of a prepared piece of your choice (accompanist provided), some ear tests and sight reading.

When and where do you rehearse?
We rehearse every Sunday evening from 6-9pm at Imperial College, South Kensington, London SW7. Click here for directions.

What are the rehearsals like?
The majority of our rehearsals are unaccompanied. We occasionally use a repetiteur to help us rehearse particularly difficult pieces, or accompanied choral works. We have a coffee break half way through. There are occasional long rehearsals (2-9pm) at which members contribute to a buffet which helps break up the session a bit!

What financial obligations do you expect from members?
Members are required to pay an annual subscription fee of only £40 per year (concessions are available). Members are also required to purchase their own music (this is organised through the choir at a discounted rate).

Are there any solo opportunities?
We regularly give concerts in which there are solo opportunities for members of the group. These could range from a few bars to entire arias.

What is the social side like?
Aside from post-rehearsal drinks at The Queen's Arms, we organise restaurant visits, parties, and trips away. These social events are an important part of Exmoor Singers.

To find out more about the above and other expectations,
please read the following PDF containing Information for Joiners.

There is also a recruitment flyer/poster available for singing teachers and university choirs. See recruitment poster.
